Americans gathered in cities and towns on May 7, 2026, for the 75th National Day of Prayer. The annual observance, which dates back to 1952, drew participants from churches, civic groups, and faith communities across all 50 states.

This year's theme, "Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations," focused on intergenerational unity. Organizers said the timing was significant, coinciding with America's 250th anniversary celebrations.

Events ranged from small prayer circles in rural communities to large gatherings at state capitols. In Washington, D.C., faith leaders led prayers for the nation's leaders, military, and families.

The National Day of Prayer Task Force, which coordinates the observance, reported strong participation from evangelical, Catholic, and mainline Protestant congregations. Youth groups and senior ministries joined together at many locations.

CBN News reported that the day also drew attention to global Christian persecution, with prayers offered for believers facing violence in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

Pastors across the country used the occasion to call their congregations to consistent prayer beyond a single day. "One day of prayer is a starting point," said one pastor at a gathering in Ohio. "The goal is a lifestyle of seeking God."

The observance has been held every year since President Harry Truman signed it into law. Congress later set the first Thursday of May as the permanent date.
