Amazon Crosses 3 Trillion Dollar Market Cap After Strong Q2 Earnings
Amazon reached a market capitalization above $3 trillion on August 3, 2026, becoming the fifth company in history to hit that milestone. The stock rose about 5 percent after the company reported Q2 revenue of $200.61 billion and AWS revenue of $42.2 billion, both above analyst estimates. CEO Andy Jassy raised the company's 2026 capital expenditure forecast to $220 billion.
Amazon crossed a $3 trillion market capitalization on August 3, 2026, becoming the fifth company in history to reach that milestone, joining Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Nvidia.
The stock rose about 5 percent on the day, its strongest single-session gain since May 5, after the company reported second-quarter results that beat Wall Street expectations across key metrics.
Total revenue reached $200.61 billion, above the forecasted $196.47 billion. Amazon Web Services reported $42.2 billion in quarterly revenue, significantly outperforming analyst expectations of $40.54 billion. AWS growth was driven by strong demand for artificial intelligence services. Adjusted earnings per share came in at $1.97, beating the consensus estimate of $1.82.
CEO Andy Jassy announced an increase in the company's 2026 capital expenditure forecast to $220 billion, up from the $200 billion estimate provided in February. The increase reflects rising memory prices tied to AI infrastructure buildout. Jassy said demand for 2028 is already "striking" and that even with increased spending, capacity will remain insufficient to meet projected demand for 2026 and 2027.
Amazon previously crossed the $2 trillion market cap threshold in June 2024, meaning it added $1 trillion in market value in just over two years. Nvidia remains the most valuable company, with a market capitalization approaching $5 trillion.
The milestone came after a three-month slump that had cut Amazon's share price by nearly 18 percent from its early May peak.
