Anthropic is bringing its Claude AI model to Microsoft Word, allowing users to draft documents, edit text, and generate clickable citations without leaving the word processor. The feature is available for Team and Enterprise users of Microsoft 365.

The integration lets users type a prompt in Word and have Claude generate a draft, suggest edits, or pull in cited sources. The citations are clickable, meaning users can verify the sources directly from within the document. Anthropic said the feature is designed for professionals who need to produce well-sourced written work quickly.

Claude is Anthropic's flagship AI model, known for its ability to handle long documents and follow detailed instructions. The company has positioned Claude as a tool for knowledge workers who need reliable, accurate outputs rather than just fast ones.

The Microsoft Word integration is part of a broader push by Anthropic to embed Claude into widely used business software. The company has also been developing Claude Managed Agents, a system that simplifies the deployment of autonomous AI agents in production environments.

Anthropic recently completed an employee tender offer at a $350 billion valuation, reflecting strong confidence in the company's trajectory. The company has been competing directly with OpenAI and Google for enterprise customers.

Microsoft has been investing heavily in AI across its product line, including its Copilot assistant built on OpenAI's technology. Adding Claude as an option in Word gives enterprise customers more flexibility in choosing which AI model best fits their needs.

The Word integration is rolling out in phases. Anthropic said it plans to expand the feature to additional Microsoft 365 applications in the coming months.
