Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7, 2026, pricing it at $0.10 per million input tokens for prompts under 100,000 tokens, a 90 percent reduction from the previous Haiku model. The company says the cut is designed to make high-volume AI features more accessible to developers.

Anthropic Cuts Claude Haiku 5.5 Prices by 90 Percent to Accelerate AI Adoption

Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7, 2026, cutting prices by up to 90 percent compared to its predecessor to accelerate adoption of AI features that require high volumes of requests.

The new model is priced at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts under 100,000 tokens. For prompts exceeding that threshold, the rate rises to $0.50 per million input tokens and $2.50 per million output tokens.

The previous Haiku model, Haiku 4.5, was priced at $1.00 per million input tokens and $5.00 per million output tokens. Anthropic says that for approximately 90 percent of requests, which fall under the 100,000-token limit, the new pricing is 90 percent cheaper. On average, accounting for longer prompts and updated tokenization, the company reports a 75 percent cost saving.

Haiku 5.5 is positioned as a fast, efficient model for repetitive tasks such as summarization, classification, and browser automation. It is the first Haiku-series model to feature adjustable effort settings, allowing developers to tune the balance between model intelligence and cost.

Developers can reduce costs further through prompt caching, which can save up to 90 percent, and batch processing, which offers an additional 50 percent discount.

The model is available through the Claude Platform and via Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry.

The release comes on the same day OpenAI launched GPT-6, intensifying competition in the AI model market. Analysts say the pricing war is accelerating the adoption of AI across industries by making it economically viable to run AI at scale.
