Anthropic Signs 35 Billion Dollar Cloud Deal With Lambda to Power New Texas Data Center

Anthropic finalized a six-year, 35 billion dollar cloud computing agreement with Lambda, an Nvidia-backed cloud provider, to power a new data center facility in Texas, the company announced in September 2026.

The deal is one of the largest cloud infrastructure contracts in the history of artificial intelligence. It gives Anthropic dedicated computing capacity to train and run its Claude models, which are used by businesses, developers, and consumers around the world.

Lambda operates GPU cloud infrastructure and has been expanding rapidly as demand for AI computing has surged. The company is backed by Nvidia, whose chips power most AI training and inference workloads.

Anthropic has been competing with OpenAI, Google, and Meta for position in the large language model market. The company released Fable 5.1 in September 2026, which introduced improved coding capabilities and a 75 percent cost reduction for processing previously seen information.

The Texas data center will add significant capacity at a time when AI companies are racing to secure computing resources. Texas has become a major hub for data center construction, though the state's grid operator has implemented a freeze on new data center power hookups to address speculative power requests clogging the interconnection queue.

The 35 billion dollar commitment reflects the scale of investment required to compete at the frontier of AI development. OpenAI is reportedly weighing a new funding round that could value the company at 1.5 trillion dollars, and the broader AI infrastructure buildout shows no signs of slowing.
