Apple Hits 5 Trillion Dollar Market Cap as RAM Shortage Pushes Phone Prices Higher

Apple reached a 5 trillion dollar market cap in late July 2026, becoming the first company to hit that milestone. The achievement came as a global RAM shortage, driven by AI data center demand, is pushing up prices for consumer electronics. Google confirmed the Pixel 11 will cost more due to RAM prices rising from roughly 2.80 dollars per gigabyte in 2025 to 12 dollars per gigabyte in 2026.

Apple Hits 5 Trillion Dollar Market Cap as RAM Shortage Pushes Phone Prices Higher

Apple reached a $5 trillion market capitalization in late July 2026, becoming the first publicly traded company to hit that milestone.

The achievement came even as Apple faces headwinds. The company lost a legal challenge in the European Union related to the Digital Markets Act. It also delayed the launch of its smart glasses to late 2027, citing privacy concerns and internal disagreements over video recording features.

Meanwhile, a global RAM shortage is pushing up prices for consumer electronics across the industry. AI data centers are consuming high-bandwidth memory at a pace that has squeezed supply for consumer devices. RAM prices rose from roughly $2.80 per gigabyte in 2025 to $12 per gigabyte in 2026.

Google confirmed that the Pixel 11 series will cost more than its predecessor because of the memory shortage. Samsung and Apple flagship devices are expected to see similar price increases. Qualcomm is also planning double-digit chip price hikes.

Apple''s market cap milestone reflects investor confidence in the company''s long-term position despite near-term challenges. The company has been slower than some rivals to announce major AI spending commitments, which some analysts say has actually helped its stock by avoiding the capital expenditure concerns weighing on other tech giants.

The $5 trillion valuation puts Apple well ahead of the next largest companies by market cap. Microsoft, Nvidia, and Alphabet have all traded in the $3 to $4 trillion range in recent months.
