Biltmore Church in Asheville, North Carolina, baptized 458 people at a local lake on September 13, 2026, setting a new record for the largest single-day baptism in the church's 137-year history.

Pastor Bruce Frank announced the milestone on social media, writing: "What a privilege and joy to see 458 people professing faith in Jesus today at Biltmore Church through baptism. Grateful for a God who saves and a church who shares."

The previous record was 389 baptisms, set by the same church in 2025. This year's event shattered that mark by nearly 70 people.

The church posted on Facebook: "We're continuing to celebrate the 458 people who took their next step through baptism and publicly declared that their old life is gone and they have been made new through Jesus. What an incredible reminder that God is moving, lives are being changed, and that is always worth celebrating."

The Biltmore event is part of a broader pattern of mass baptisms reported across the United States in 2026. Lakepointe Church in Texas baptized 882 people on September 27. A jail ministry in Florida saw 70 inmates baptized. A beach baptism event in Florida drew 2,552 participants.

The "Baptize the World" movement, which grew from a California initiative, reported more than 17,900 baptisms across 49 countries on May 24, 2026. That movement has now involved more than 1,600 churches and recorded over 50,000 baptisms in two years.

Church leaders and observers have pointed to these events as signs of renewed spiritual interest, particularly among younger adults. Reports from Catholic universities including Texas A&M and Notre Dame show increased enrollment in adult initiation programs.

Biltmore Church leaders say they are already planning for future baptism events and encouraged members to continue inviting friends and family.
