Broadcom AI Chip Revenue Soars 221 Percent to $16.7 Billion as Custom Silicon Demand Surges

Broadcom reported $16.7 billion in AI semiconductor revenue for its fiscal third quarter, up 221 percent from a year earlier. Overall quarterly revenue reached $29.6 billion, up 86 percent. CEO Hock Tan said AI semiconductor revenue alone could reach $21.7 billion next quarter. The results show that the AI hardware boom is broadening beyond Nvidia GPUs into custom accelerators and networking infrastructure.

Broadcom AI Chip Revenue Soars 221 Percent to $16.7 Billion as Custom Silicon Demand Surges

Broadcom reported $16.7 billion in AI semiconductor revenue for its fiscal third quarter, up 221 percent from a year earlier and 54 percent sequentially. Overall quarterly revenue reached $29.6 billion, up 86 percent. The results show that custom AI accelerators and networking hardware are becoming a second major engine of the AI computing market alongside Nvidia GPUs.

CEO Hock Tan said AI semiconductor revenue alone could reach $21.7 billion next quarter, representing a 236 percent year-over-year increase. The company expects fourth-quarter revenue of about $34.8 billion.

Broadcom occupies a distinct position in the AI chip market. While Nvidia dominates general-purpose accelerated computing, Broadcom designs custom chips for hyperscalers that want processors built specifically for their own workloads. Instead of buying every unit of compute from Nvidia, cloud companies can design specialized accelerators while relying on Broadcom for networking, packaging, connectivity, and custom silicon expertise.

The numbers suggest the transition from experimentation to large-scale deployment is well underway. Major cloud providers including Google, Meta, and Amazon have all invested in custom AI silicon programs, and Broadcom has been a key partner in those efforts.

The results also highlight the importance of AI networking infrastructure. As AI clusters grow larger, the hardware connecting chips, memory, switches, and servers becomes as critical as the processors themselves. Broadcom's networking revenue has grown alongside its custom chip business, reflecting the full-stack nature of modern AI infrastructure buildouts.

Broadcom shares rose sharply following the earnings report. Analysts said the results confirm that the AI hardware market can support multiple large businesses, not just Nvidia's dominant GPU franchise.
