The evangelism ministry Cru announced plans to mobilize 10,000 churches across the United States, Canada, and Mexico for a mission campaign during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The initiative aims to use the global sporting event as an opportunity for outreach and discipleship. Cru has partnered with local churches in host cities to coordinate volunteer efforts.

The evangelism and discipleship ministry Cru announced a plan to mobilize 10,000 churches for a mission campaign tied to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Cru said the World Cup presents a rare opportunity to reach millions of international visitors with the Christian message. The organization is partnering with local churches in host cities to coordinate outreach, volunteer training, and discipleship programs.
The campaign will run throughout the tournament, which begins in June 2026. Cru plans to deploy trained volunteers at fan zones, public viewing areas, and community events in each host city.
"The World Cup brings the world to our doorstep," said a Cru spokesperson. "We want churches to be ready to welcome visitors and share their faith in practical, meaningful ways."
The initiative is part of a broader push by evangelical organizations to use major sporting events for outreach. Similar campaigns were run during previous World Cups in Brazil and Russia.
Cru has been operating since 1951 and works in more than 190 countries. The organization focuses on college campuses, military communities, and urban neighborhoods in addition to its global mission work.
Churches interested in participating can register through Cru's website. Training materials, volunteer guides, and outreach resources will be provided at no cost to participating congregations.
Christian Today reported that the campaign has already attracted commitments from churches in Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, and Miami, all of which are hosting World Cup matches.
