The Fellowship of Catholic University Students, known as FOCUS, announced on October 7, 2026, that Jonathan Reyes will serve as its new chief executive officer. His appointment takes effect November 16, 2026.
Reyes succeeds Curtis A. Martin, who founded FOCUS in 1998 and retired as CEO in December 2025. Martin remains on the board and continues to serve the organization as founder. Tim Thoman served as interim CEO during the national search and will return to his position on the FOCUS Board of Directors after the transition.
Reyes brings three decades of leadership in Catholic institutions. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of communications at the Knights of Columbus. He also held senior roles at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, including executive director of the Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development.
Earlier in his career, Reyes co-founded the Augustine Institute and served as its first president. He also founded Christ in the City, served as president and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Denver, and was vice president for academic affairs at Christendom College.
He holds a Ph.D. in European history from the University of Notre Dame, where his research focused on British Catholic historian Christopher Dawson. He previously served as FOCUS vice president of ministry and formation from 2004 to 2005 and has been a board member.
FOCUS operates on more than 200 college campuses and in approximately 40 parishes across the United States. The organization employs over 1,000 missionaries and hosts the annual SEEK conference, one of the largest Catholic gatherings in the country.
FOCUS President Nicole Martin, who announced the appointment, said Reyes's background in evangelization and institutional leadership made him the right choice to lead the organization into its next chapter.
