The event, organized by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, marked one of the largest Christian gatherings in Spain in recent memory. Hundreds walked forward at the end of the service to indicate a decision to follow Christ.
Among those who attended were self-described atheists who said they came to see what the event was about. Several told reporters afterward that the message had given them something to think about.
"Spain has a deep Catholic history, but many people today have drifted from faith," said a local pastor who helped organize the event. "Seeing this many people gather in one place for the gospel is something we have not seen in a long time."
Graham, son of the late evangelist Billy Graham, has held similar festivals across Europe and Latin America in recent years. His organization reported that the Madrid event drew responses from people of all ages, with a notable number of young adults in attendance.
The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association said follow-up materials and local church connections were provided to everyone who responded at the event.
