Gateway Church Resolves Retirement Dispute with Former Pastor Robert Morris

Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, has resolved a financial dispute with former senior pastor Robert Morris, the church confirmed in May 2026.

Morris resigned from Gateway in June 2024 after publicly admitting to what he called inappropriate behavior with a young girl decades earlier. The admission followed public accusations from Cindy Clemishire, who said Morris had sexually abused her as a child starting when she was 12 years old.

After his resignation, a dispute arose over Morris's retirement compensation package. The church's board and Morris's representatives entered negotiations over the terms.

Gateway Church confirmed the dispute has been settled but did not disclose the financial terms. A church spokesperson said the resolution allows both parties to move forward.

Gateway Church is one of the largest megachurches in the United States, with tens of thousands of members across multiple campuses in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The church has been working to rebuild trust with its congregation since Morris's resignation. New leadership has been installed, and the church has said it is committed to accountability and transparency.

Morris has not made public statements since his resignation. His ministry website and social media accounts have been inactive.
