Gemini is now embedded across Search, Android, YouTube, and Gmail.
Google introduced Gemini Spark at its I/O 2026 developer conference, an always-on AI agent that operates in the background across Google Workspace and integrates with third-party applications and local files.
The announcement was part of a broader set of more than 100 AI advancements Google unveiled at the event. Company executives described the shift as moving from AI assistants that answer questions to autonomous agents that can complete multi-step workflows across different apps and services.
Gemini Spark can monitor emails, calendar events, and documents, then take actions based on user preferences without requiring manual prompts. Google said the agent can draft replies, schedule meetings, summarize documents, and flag important items automatically.
Google is embedding Gemini across its entire product ecosystem. The AI is now integrated into Search, Android, YouTube, Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Ads. The company said it aims to make AI the primary operating layer behind its products.
The move is Google's direct response to growing competition from AI-native tools and Microsoft's Copilot integration across Office products. Google's advantage is its distribution, with billions of users already using its apps daily.
Developers can build on top of Gemini Spark through new APIs announced at I/O. Google also introduced tools for creating AI agents that can interact with external services and databases.
Privacy controls allow users to limit what Gemini Spark can access. Google said the agent operates within existing Google account permissions and does not share data with third parties without user consent.
