HHS Details Actions to Protect Religious Liberty Under New Anti-Christian Bias Report
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a report on April 30, 2026, detailing steps taken to protect the religious liberty of Christians and other Americans of faith. The report accompanies the 2026 Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias findings from the Department of Justice.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a detailed account of its actions to protect religious liberty on April 30, 2026, alongside the Department of Justice's 2026 Report of the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias.
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the Trump administration is committed to ensuring Americans do not have to choose between their faith and their livelihood. The department said it has taken steps to enforce conscience protection laws and has reviewed prior policies that it says inadequately protected the rights of people of faith.
The DOJ report identified specific policies from previous administrations that the task force says burdened the religious liberty and conscience rights of Christians and other Americans. HHS published a snapshot of its own efforts to address those policies.
Kennedy said the administration takes religious liberty seriously as a matter of law and principle. "Americans should not have to choose between their faith and their livelihood," he said in a statement accompanying the report.
The report covers a range of areas, including healthcare workers who object to certain procedures on religious grounds, faith-based organizations that receive federal funding, and individuals who say they faced discrimination because of their beliefs.
Critics of the task force say the framing of "anti-Christian bias" is politically motivated and could be used to justify discrimination against other groups. Supporters say the report addresses real concerns that have gone unaddressed for years.
The full report is available on the HHS website. The department said it will continue to monitor compliance with conscience protection laws and take action where violations are found.
