Historically Black Churches Receive $13.5 Million in Preservation Grants
The National Trust for Historic Preservation awarded $13.5 million to 38 historically Black churches across the United States through its Preserving Black Churches program.
In 2026, the Preserving Black Churches program awarded $13.5 million in grants to 38 churches across the United States. Notable recipients include Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham receiving $300,000, Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta receiving $100,000, and New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Tulsa receiving $200,000. The grants support capital projects, programming, organizational capacity building, and project planning to preserve these vital civic institutions.
