A Jacksonville, Florida, church baptized 2,552 people in the Atlantic Ocean during a single event, drawing participants from across the region and marking what church leaders called a historic moment.
The event took place on a Saturday morning, with volunteers and pastors wading into the surf to perform baptisms as families and friends watched from the beach. Lines stretched along the shoreline for hours.
Church leaders said the turnout reflected months of outreach and small-group discipleship that had been building toward the event. Many of those baptized were new believers who had come to faith in the past year.
"This is not about a number," said one of the church's lead pastors. "Every single person who walked into that water made a personal decision. The number just shows how many people God has been working in."
CBN News reported the event as one of the largest single-day baptism gatherings in Florida's recent history. Video footage shared on social media showed long rows of people being baptized simultaneously as worship music played on the beach.
The church said it plans to continue follow-up discipleship programs for all who were baptized.
