Kenyan Evangelicals Launch Prayer Movement to Mobilize 1 Million Intercessors Before 2027 Elections
Church leaders in Kenya have launched the Kenya National Prayer and Transformation Movement, calling for prayer, repentance, and civic responsibility ahead of the country's 2027 General Election. The initiative aims to mobilize 1 million intercessors across the country. Organizers say economic pressures and political tensions make the effort urgent.
Evangelical church leaders in Kenya launched the Kenya National Prayer and Transformation Movement (KNPTM) this week, setting a goal of mobilizing 1 million intercessors before the country's 2027 General Election.
The movement calls on Christians to commit to prayer, repentance, unity, and responsible citizenship. Leaders say the timing is deliberate, given rising economic pressures and political tensions that have strained communities across the country.
"We believe prayer is not passive," said one of the founding pastors at the launch event. "It is action. It shapes the moral fabric of a nation."
The KNPTM plans to organize prayer gatherings in all 47 counties, with a focus on youth engagement and civic education. Organizers say they want to see Christians show up not just at the polls but in their communities year-round.
Kenya's 2022 elections were marked by legal disputes and public unrest. Church leaders say they want 2027 to be different, with faith communities playing a stabilizing role.
The movement is backed by a coalition of evangelical denominations and parachurch organizations. It has no formal political affiliation and says it will not endorse any candidate.
Christian Daily International reported the launch on May 24, 2026, noting that the initiative follows a pattern of church-led civic engagement that has shaped Kenyan politics for decades.
Organizers plan to release a formal prayer guide and mobilization toolkit in June.
