Evangelical leaders in Kenya launched the Kenya National Prayer and Transformation Movement (KNPTM) on May 4, 2026, with a public gathering at Uhuru Park Gardens in Nairobi. The initiative aims to mobilize one million intercessors across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Organizers say the movement is a direct response to rising economic pressure and political tension. Church leaders called on Christians to pray for national repentance, peaceful elections, and responsible civic participation.

The launch drew thousands of worshippers from multiple denominations. Speakers urged attendees to register to vote and to hold elected officials accountable through prayer and civic action.

Kenya has a history of post-election violence, most notably in 2007 and 2017. Church leaders say they want to prevent a repeat by building a culture of prayer and dialogue before tensions escalate.

The KNPTM plans to hold regional prayer gatherings in all 47 counties before the end of 2026. Organizers are also working with youth groups to train young Christians in civic education and conflict resolution.

"We are not a political movement," said one of the founding pastors. "We are asking God to guide this nation and asking citizens to take their responsibility seriously."

The movement has received support from several major denominations, including the National Council of Churches of Kenya and the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya.
