Gospel artist Kierra Sheard is set to receive the BMI Impact Award at the 2026 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards, BMI announced on June 16, 2026.

Sheard, 36, is the daughter of Karen Clark Sheard of The Clark Sisters and has been a fixture in gospel music since her debut in the early 2000s. She has earned multiple Stellar Award nominations and Grammy recognition over her career, and has also built a following as an actress and author.

The BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards honors artists, songwriters, and producers who have shaped the genre. The Impact Award is given to an individual whose work has had a measurable effect on gospel music's reach and cultural presence.

"Kierra has carried the torch for a generation of gospel artists," said BMI Vice President of Creative, Gospel and Christian Music, in a statement. "Her voice, her songwriting, and her willingness to speak openly about faith have made her one of the most important figures in the genre today."

Sheard has been open about her personal faith journey, including struggles with body image and identity, which she has addressed in her music and in her 2021 memoir. Her transparency has resonated with younger gospel audiences.

The 2026 BMI Trailblazers ceremony is scheduled for later this summer. Other honorees have not yet been announced.

The recognition comes as gospel music is experiencing a period of strong commercial activity. The 41st Stellar Gospel Music Awards, set for August 15 in Charlotte, North Carolina, is expected to draw major attention to the genre, with Kirk Franklin announced as host and John P. Kee and Kim Person leading the nominations.
