Gospel icon Kirk Franklin has signed a strategic partnership with Uptown Records, the label founded in 1986 by the late Andre Harrell that helped launch the careers of Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, and Heavy D.
The deal, announced September 8, 2026, includes Franklin's own label, Fo Yo Soul Entertainment, and TRIBL Music Group. It coincides with Uptown Records' 40th anniversary and its ongoing revival under new leadership.
Natina Nimene, an executive at Uptown and EVP of Urban Audience and Artist Relations at the Republic Collective, praised Franklin for his sustained relevance across decades of gospel music. Phil Thornton, EVP of TRIBL Music Group and Insignia Assets, said the partnership will help amplify Franklin's future musical vision.
To mark the announcement, Franklin released the music video for his single "Thank You for Everything," which features gospel legend Karen Clark Sheard of the Clark Sisters. The video debuted on BET Her.
Franklin is a 20-time Grammy Award winner and one of the most recognized figures in gospel music. His label, Fo Yo Soul Entertainment, has been home to several prominent gospel artists over the years.
Uptown Records' current roster includes Yung Miami, G Herbo, and several other artists as the label works to rebuild its profile in the music industry.
