LDS Church Announces New Sunday Meeting Schedule Starting September 2026

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a significant adjustment to its Sunday class meeting schedule, effective the first week of September 2026. The announcement was made in a First Presidency letter on March 30, 2026, signed by Church President Dallin H. Oaks and his counselors.

The new schedule replaces the alternating weekly format that has been in place since January 2019. Under the new structure, members will attend all their meetings every Sunday: a 60-minute sacrament meeting, followed by a five-minute transition, then a 25-minute Sunday School class, another five-minute transition, and finally 25-minute meetings for Relief Society, elders quorum, Young Women, and Aaronic Priesthood quorums. Primary will continue to meet for 55 minutes during the second hour.

Sunday School General President Paul V. Johnson explained: 'Gathering weekly in every class helps deepen gospel learning by connecting it more closely to personal and family study. It also enhances the spiritual support that members get.'

Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson added: 'There is additive strength that comes when we meet each week to counsel, learn and support one another. When we gather in His name, the Spirit is there to teach us, testimonies are strengthened, and we lift each other in discipleship.'

The changes aim to focus more on the teachings of Jesus Christ, strengthen gospel learning at home, and increase fellowship and community at church. Sunday School and Primary classes will continue to use the Come, Follow Me curriculum, while youth will use a new expanded edition of For the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices beginning September 6, 2026.
