The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints convened its 196th Annual General Conference on April 4-5, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The conference was a landmark event, featuring a solemn assembly, held only when a new Church President is called, following the death of President Russell M. Nelson on September 27, 2025. President Dallin H. Oaks was sustained as the 18th President of the Church, with President Henry B. Eyring as First Counselor and President D. Todd Christofferson as Second Counselor. Thirty-two Church leaders shared messages about the gospel of Jesus Christ during the four general sessions. Because the conference coincided with Easter weekend, many messages focused on the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. President Oaks spoke on the Resurrection, emphasizing its significance as a core doctrine and urging members to be peacemakers. President Dieter F. Uchtdorf taught about encountering the empty tomb and the reality that Jesus Christ lives. Elder Quentin L. Cook highlighted the special blessing of General Conference coinciding with Easter, noting the historical overlap with Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery's vision of the Savior in the Kirtland Temple in 1836. Eight men were sustained as new General Authority Seventies, and a new Primary general presidency was also sustained. As of March 2026, the Church has 383 temples either dedicated, under construction, or in planning stages worldwide. All 34 talks and the solemn assembly are now available in English on ChurchofJesusChrist.org and in the Gospel Library app, with other languages to follow.
