Metropolitan AME Church Hosts 33rd Annual Scholarship Luncheon on June 13 in Washington D.C.
Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C. hosted its 33rd Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon on June 13, 2026, honoring students who demonstrate financial need and scholastic achievement. Dr. Satira Streeter Corbitt, founder of Ascensions Psychological Services and author of 'Black Genius,' served as keynote speaker. The event is part of the church's Payne-Tanner Memorial Scholarship Endowment.

The event, organized through the church's Payne-Tanner Memorial Scholarship Endowment, began at 12:00 p.m. at the church's historic building on M Street NW.
Dr. Satira Streeter Corbitt served as keynote speaker. Corbitt is the founder and executive director of Ascensions Psychological Services, Inc., and the author of "Black Genius: A Guided Journal Through History and Affirmation." Her work focuses on the psychological well-being and academic achievement of Black youth.
The program included musical performances by the N Tyme Ensemble and a contemporary dance performance by The Met Fresh Fire, led by Ms. Britney Jones.
Tickets for the luncheon were priced at $50, with additional contributions to the scholarship endowment accepted through the church's Eventbrite page.
Metropolitan AME Church is one of the oldest and most historically significant African American churches in the United States. Founded in 1838, it has served as a gathering place for abolitionists, civil rights leaders, and community advocates for nearly two centuries.
The church's scholarship program reflects its long tradition of investing in the education and development of young people from the surrounding community.
The luncheon is one of several events the church has planned for June 2026.
