Microsoft Releases MAI-Transcribe-2 and New Text-to-Speech AI Models for Real-Time Interaction
Microsoft released the MAI-Transcribe-2-Streaming model alongside two new text-to-speech systems, MAI-Voice-2.1 and MAI-Voice-2.1-Flash, in early October 2026. The models focus on low-latency, multilingual, real-time audio interaction.
REDMOND, Wash. — Microsoft released a new suite of AI audio models in early October 2026, including a streaming transcription model and two text-to-speech systems designed for real-time, multilingual interaction.
The MAI-Transcribe-2-Streaming model is built for live transcription tasks, converting spoken audio to text with low latency. Microsoft says the model performs well across multiple languages and accents, making it suitable for customer service, accessibility tools, and live captioning applications.
The two new text-to-speech systems, MAI-Voice-2.1 and MAI-Voice-2.1-Flash, generate natural-sounding speech from text. The Flash variant is optimized for speed, targeting applications where response time is critical, such as voice assistants and interactive phone systems.
Microsoft said the models are available through its Azure AI services platform. Developers can access them via API to build voice-enabled applications.
The releases are part of Microsoft's broader push to expand its AI capabilities across audio, video, and language. The company has been investing heavily in AI infrastructure and model development as competition with Google, Amazon, and OpenAI intensifies.
Tech Startups reported the releases on October 2, 2026, noting that the models represent Microsoft's latest effort to compete in the fast-growing market for real-time AI audio tools.
The transcription and voice synthesis market has grown rapidly as businesses look to automate customer interactions and improve accessibility. Analysts say demand for low-latency, multilingual models is particularly strong in global markets where multiple languages are used in the same region.
Microsoft has not disclosed pricing for the new models beyond its standard Azure AI pricing tiers.
