Nashville Gospel Museum Marks First Anniversary With Six Days of Events

The Museum of Christian and Gospel Music in Nashville marked its first anniversary on October 3, 2026, with six days of events celebrating the history and legacy of gospel music in America.

The museum, which opened in 2025, is the first institution in the United States dedicated specifically to preserving and presenting the history of Christian and gospel music. It is located in Nashville's music district and draws visitors from across the country.

Anniversary events included panel discussions with gospel music veterans, live performances, and the opening of a new exhibit focused on the roots of Black gospel music in the American South. The museum also announced plans to expand its digital archive, which currently holds recordings, photographs, and documents spanning more than a century of gospel music history.

Museum director and staff said attendance in the first year exceeded projections, with visitors coming from as far as Nigeria, Brazil, and the United Kingdom. The institution has worked to document not only well-known artists but also local church choirs and regional gospel traditions that have rarely been recorded or studied.

The anniversary celebration drew several prominent gospel artists who donated personal memorabilia to the museum's permanent collection. Items added this year include stage costumes, handwritten song lyrics, and instruments from artists across multiple generations of gospel music.

The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday and offers educational programs for school groups and community organizations.
