National Baptist Convention USA Holds 146th Annual Session in Orlando This September

The National Baptist Convention USA is holding its 146th Annual Session in Orlando, Florida this September, drawing thousands of Black Baptist church leaders and members from across the country.

The National Baptist Convention USA is one of the largest African American religious organizations in the United States, with a membership of roughly 7.5 million people across more than 31,000 churches. Its annual session is one of the largest gatherings in Black Christianity each year.

This year's meeting comes as the Black church faces significant challenges, including declining youth membership, financial pressures from gentrification, and a leadership succession crisis. Research published earlier this year found that 47 percent of Black adults believe Black churches are less influential than they were 50 years ago.

Despite those concerns, participation in the historically Black Protestant tradition remains high. About 66 percent of members attend services at least monthly, according to recent surveys.

The Orlando session includes worship services, denominational business, and workshops on topics ranging from church growth to community health advocacy. The National Baptist Convention has historically been active in civic issues, including voting rights and healthcare access.

Convention leaders are expected to address the role of technology and artificial intelligence in church ministry, a topic that has generated significant debate in Black church circles this year.
