National Black Church Initiative Addresses Health Disparities and Community Needs

The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI) is a coalition of 150,000 African-American churches, comprising 27.7 million members, dedicated to eradicating racial disparities in healthcare, technology, education, housing, and the environment. Through faith and science-based strategies, NBCI provides wellness education to churches, members, and the public.

NBCI employs a faith-based approach combined with scientific research to address systemic inequities. Programs include clinical health initiatives, financial literacy, housing education, small business development, and environmental advocacy.

Recent highlights include the announcement of the 25 Most Effective Christian Biblical Preachers for 2025-2026, support for Rev. Thomas Hart's Heart Transplant Fund with a goal of $450,000, and the NBCI National Clinical Trials Strategic Plan (NCTSP) to increase participation in medical research.

The organization maintains a full vaccine education and immunization tracker, addressing vaccine confusion and promoting public health. NBCI also supports charitable funds that finance health programs across member churches.

Key initiatives include the Black Beautiful Babies maternal health campaign, partnerships with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research, and collaboration with federal agencies including HHS, NIH, and CDC to reduce health disparities.

NBCI maintains a color-coded threat level system to assess safety risks in congregations, currently at "Elevated" status, encouraging churches to work with law enforcement and enhance security measures.
