The National Black Church Initiative is calling on 25,000 of its member churches to renew their membership by June 15, 2026, as the organization pushes to strengthen its network ahead of a busy summer of health and civic programs.

The NBCI represents 150,000 African American churches and 27.7 million members, making it one of the largest faith-based coalitions in the United States. The organization works on issues including health disparities, housing, education, and voter engagement.

NBCI president Rev. Anthony Evans said the membership renewal drive is part of a broader effort to build capacity for upcoming campaigns. The organization has a "Reach Out, Reach Back Campaign" planned for June and an immunization drive set to kick off later in the year.

The NBCI has been active on several health fronts in 2026. It launched a Parkinson's Disease education initiative in Houston and St. Louis, establishing the African American Parkinson's Patient Advocacy Organization. It also started a "Heart First" pilot program in Miami and Charlotte.

The coalition has proposed a "Black Beautiful Babies Campaign" to address the national Black maternal health crisis, which sees Black women dying in childbirth at rates far higher than white women.

On the civic side, the NBCI has announced its list of the 25 most effective Black preachers in the biblical tradition for 2025-2026, recognizing leaders who are shaping faith communities across the country.

Churches interested in renewing membership can do so through the NBCI website at naltblackchurch.com.
