Nvidia in Talks to Invest in Perplexity at Over 30 Billion Dollar Valuation

Nvidia is in discussions to participate in a new equity funding round for AI search startup Perplexity, which could value the company at more than $30 billion. The potential deal would mark a significant jump from Perplexity's $20 billion valuation in late 2025. Perplexity's annualized revenue has grown to over $750 million in 2026.

Nvidia is in discussions to take a stake in Perplexity, the AI search and agent startup, in a new funding round that could value the company at more than $30 billion, according to reports from Reuters and Yahoo Finance published in late August 2026.

The proposed valuation represents a jump of more than 50 percent from the approximately $20 billion valuation Perplexity carried in September 2025. The funding round could involve several billion dollars, though no deal has been finalized and discussions remain ongoing.

The potential investment fits a pattern in Nvidia's corporate strategy. The chipmaker has increasingly taken equity stakes in companies that rely on its hardware to build AI products, including CoreWeave and Nebius. By backing startups like Perplexity, Nvidia benefits both from hardware sales and from equity exposure to the growth of AI applications running on its chips.

Perplexity recently deepened its commercial ties with Nvidia by choosing to deploy Nvidia's Vera CPUs for its AI agent workloads, citing better performance compared to traditional server processors.

The company's commercial growth has been rapid. Perplexity's annualized revenue has grown to over $750 million in 2026, up from less than $250 million at the start of the year. Much of that growth has come from the adoption of Perplexity Computer, an AI agent product designed to automate professional tasks on a computer.

Perplexity has also signed a reported $750 million agreement with Microsoft to use Azure cloud services. The company has indicated it plans to pursue an initial public offering as early as 2028.

Nvidia is scheduled to report quarterly earnings in the coming weeks, and analysts are watching the Perplexity discussions as a signal of the company's broader AI investment strategy.
