Pope Leo XIV Calls for Easter Peace as Christians Worldwide Celebrate Resurrection

Pope Leo XIV delivered a powerful Easter message in April 2026, urging world leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue, reduce violence, and promote peace across conflict zones. The Pope specifically called for an Easter truce and encouraged Christians everywhere to pray for those suffering from war, particularly in the Middle East. In Jerusalem, the Patriarchs and heads of churches issued a joint Easter message appealing for prayers and work toward relief for those affected by ongoing conflicts, emphasizing the 'newness of life' found in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter celebrations took place across the globe, with churches reporting strong attendance and renewed spiritual commitment. In the United Kingdom, King Charles and Queen Camilla attended the Royal Maundy Service at St Asaph Cathedral in Wales, marking only the second time in 800 years the event was held in Wales. The King presented Maundy gifts to 77 men and 77 women chosen for their Christian service and community contributions. Pope Leo XIV also observed the tradition of Maundy Thursday by washing the feet of twelve priests in Rome, commemorating Jesus's commandment to 'Love one another.' Despite security concerns and restrictions due to ongoing conflict, traditional ceremonies were planned in a limited format at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. The Easter season served as a powerful reminder of the Christian faith's central message of hope, redemption, and peace, with faith leaders worldwide calling on their congregations to be agents of reconciliation in a divided world.
