SpaceX Begins Trading on Nasdaq Today at $135 Per Share in Largest IPO in History

SpaceX began trading on the Nasdaq today, June 12, 2026, under the ticker symbol SPCX at $135 per share, raising $75 billion in what is now the largest initial public offering in history.

The company sold 555.6 million shares, with underwriters holding an option to purchase an additional 83.33 million shares that could add $11.2 billion to the total raise. At the $135 per share price, SpaceX is valued at $1.77 trillion, surpassing the market capitalization of Tesla.

Investor demand during the roadshow exceeded $150 billion, more than double the amount the company sought to raise. Institutional and sovereign wealth funds placed orders totaling more than $10 billion in the first days of the roadshow alone.

SpaceX filed its S-1 prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Commission on May 20, 2026, after confidentially submitting a draft registration statement on April 1. The SEC completed its review faster than expected, allowing the roadshow to begin on June 4.

Elon Musk is expected to retain more than 82% voting control of the company after the offering. SpaceX reserved up to 30% of IPO shares for retail investors, a significantly higher portion than the typical 5% to 10% in standard offerings.

The company's valuation reflects its dominant position in the commercial launch market through its Falcon 9 and Starship rockets, its Starlink satellite internet service, and its integration with xAI following a merger that valued the combined entity at $1.25 trillion in February 2026.

The IPO marks a major milestone for the private space industry and is expected to set a benchmark for future technology offerings.
