SpaceX Files for IPO at $1.7 Trillion Valuation, Driven by Starlink Revenue

SpaceX filed its initial public offering prospectus in May 2026, targeting a valuation of $1.7 trillion. The filing would rank among the largest IPOs in U.S. history.

The company reported 2025 revenue of $18.7 billion. Starlink, its satellite internet service, was the primary revenue driver. Starlink now serves millions of customers across more than 100 countries, including remote areas, maritime vessels, and aviation customers.

SpaceX's launch business, which includes Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets, also contributed significantly to revenue. The company has dominated the commercial launch market for several years, conducting more orbital launches than any other provider.

The Starship program, SpaceX's next-generation rocket designed for deep space missions, is not yet generating revenue but has completed several successful test flights. NASA has contracted SpaceX to use Starship for future lunar missions.

CEO Elon Musk has previously said he was reluctant to take SpaceX public, citing concerns about short-term investor pressure affecting long-term mission goals. The IPO filing suggests the company has decided the benefits of public capital outweigh those concerns.

The offering is expected to attract significant investor interest given SpaceX's dominant market position and Starlink's rapid growth. Analysts have noted that Starlink's recurring subscription revenue provides a more predictable income stream than the launch business.

No date has been set for the IPO. The prospectus is subject to SEC review before the company can proceed with the offering.
