Wayve uses end-to-end neural networks that learn driving behavior directly from data, rather than relying on detailed pre-built maps of roads and environments. The company says this approach makes its system more adaptable to new locations and changing road conditions.

The investment from three major chip manufacturers signals confidence in Wayve's technical direction. Qualcomm, AMD, and Arm all supply components that are central to the computing systems used in autonomous vehicles.

Wayve is competing in a field that includes Waymo, Tesla, and Baidu, all of which have been testing autonomous vehicles in various cities. Uber committed $10 billion to robotaxis in April 2026 as it works to regain ground in autonomous mobility. Tesla is conducting limited Robotaxi testing in Austin.

The autonomous vehicle industry has faced scrutiny over transparency. A Baidu robotaxi experienced a system failure in April 2026 that trapped passengers, raising safety concerns.

Wayve's mapless approach is seen as a potential advantage in markets where detailed mapping data is not available or is difficult to keep current. The company is based in London and has been testing its technology on public roads in the United Kingdom.

The $60 million round adds to previous funding Wayve has raised as it works toward commercial deployment of its self-driving system.
