WWDC 2026 Opens as Apple Focuses on AI-Powered Siri Overhaul in Tim Cook's Final Keynote

Apple opened its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8, 2026, at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. CEO Tim Cook took the stage for what is expected to be his final WWDC keynote before stepping down later this year.

The conference focused almost entirely on software. Apple announced a major overhaul of Siri, rebuilding it as a more capable, conversational AI assistant. The new Siri can handle multi-step requests, pull context from across apps, and respond more naturally to follow-up questions.

Apple Intelligence, the company's on-device AI system, received several new features. These include improved writing tools, smarter photo editing, and deeper integration with third-party apps.

No major hardware was announced. Apple refreshed its MacBook lineup earlier in 2026 with M5 chips, so developers focused their attention on the software sessions.

Cook addressed the crowd briefly about his tenure before handing off to the engineering team. He did not confirm a specific departure date but acknowledged the transition publicly for the first time at a major event.

Developers attending the conference will have access to beta versions of iOS, macOS, and watchOS starting this week. Public betas are expected to follow in July.
