The collaboration will pull data from Fitbit devices and the Google Health app, including sleep patterns, heart rate variability, and physical activity levels. Clinicians at Amae Health will use that data to identify early warning signs of psychiatric relapse before patients report symptoms.
Amae Health specializes in treating patients with conditions including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and severe depression. These patients often struggle to recognize when their condition is worsening, making early intervention difficult.
"Wearables give us a window into what's happening between appointments," said a clinical director at Amae Health. "If someone's sleep collapses or their activity drops sharply, that can signal a crisis is coming days before the patient calls us."
The partnership is one of the first to apply consumer wearable data to psychiatric care at scale. Most existing uses of wearables in healthcare focus on physical conditions such as heart disease or diabetes.
Google Health Enterprise provides HIPAA-compliant data infrastructure for healthcare organizations. The company has been expanding its partnerships with clinical providers as it seeks to establish a larger role in the healthcare system.
Amae Health said it will use the data to adjust medication, schedule additional appointments, or connect patients with crisis support before a full relapse occurs.
Patient privacy advocates have raised questions about the use of continuous health monitoring in psychiatric care. Amae Health said patients will provide explicit consent before their wearable data is shared with clinicians.
