Amazon Plans 200 Billion in AI Infrastructure Spending for 2026
Amazon announced plans to spend $200 billion on AI-related infrastructure in 2026, making it the largest single-year capital commitment in the company's history. The investment covers data centers, energy procurement, and specialized hardware.
Amazon announced plans to invest $200 billion in AI-related infrastructure during 2026, the largest capital spending commitment in the company's history, according to TechStartups.
The investment covers data center construction, energy procurement, and specialized hardware for AI workloads. Amazon Web Services is the primary driver of the spending, as demand for cloud computing and AI services continues to grow.
The announcement came as Nvidia reported it was acting as a financial partner in several large AI infrastructure deals. Nvidia is reportedly backing a $250 billion financing guarantee for an OpenAI data center in Ohio and a $50 billion lease for a Texas data center.
AMD secured up to 2.5 gigawatts of data center capacity from Core Scientific as part of its own AI infrastructure expansion. Verizon entered a $1 billion dark-fiber agreement with Google to support AI connectivity.
The scale of investment reflects a broader industry shift from competing on model intelligence to controlling physical infrastructure. Analysts said companies that own the most data center capacity and energy supply will have a structural advantage in the AI market.
The spending surge has also driven up costs for consumer electronics. A global shortage of high-bandwidth memory, caused by demand from AI data centers, has forced price increases for devices including Google's Pixel 11 and Apple hardware.
The U.S. government awarded $300 million to GlobalFoundries in July for advanced AI chip connectivity technologies as part of its effort to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing.
