Apple launched its first touchscreen laptop, the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, at its "Pro and Tell" event in Los Angeles on October 28, 2026.

The 14-inch model starts at $2,899 and the 16-inch at $3,399, a $400 premium over the non-touchscreen M5 MacBook Pro models announced separately. Preorders opened October 30, with retail availability beginning November 6.

The laptops are powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, offering up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. The displays use tandem OLED technology to deliver 2,000 nits of peak brightness and a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

Apple replaced the traditional display notch with a Dynamic Island-style cutout. macOS has been updated to adjust its control density based on whether the user is interacting via trackpad or touch. A redesigned hinge stabilizes the screen during touch input.

The launch marks the third major product introduction under CEO John Ternus, following the foldable iPhone Duo in September 2026. Analysts say the move to a touchscreen Mac is a strategic effort to attract developers and better position the Mac for local AI workflows.

Both sizes include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, and a headphone jack. The laptops also feature a six-speaker array with an updated woofer design.
