Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll Win Grammy for Hard Fought Hallelujah

Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for their collaboration "Hard Fought Hallelujah." The song spent 34 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs chart before earning the top honor at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The collaboration brought together Lake, a worship artist known in Christian music circles, and Jelly Roll, a country and hip-hop artist who has spoken publicly about his faith journey. Their pairing drew attention from both Christian and mainstream music audiences.

At the ceremony, Jelly Roll gave a speech that went viral, thanking Jesus and speaking about redemption. Brandon Lake later told Rolling Stone that Jelly Roll is "loved by this community," pushing back on critics who questioned the collaboration.

The Gospel Music Association reported that the song's success reflects a broader trend of gospel and Christian music crossing into mainstream charts. Jonathan McReynolds' live album "Closer (Live in Chicago)" also gained global recognition this year, featuring collaborations with Tasha Cobbs Leonard and Ghana's Team Eternity.

The 57th Annual GMA Dove Awards are scheduled for October 6, 2026, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, where more gospel and Christian music milestones are expected to be recognized.

Gospel Buzz noted that 2026 has been a strong year for the genre, with major releases from Dunsin Oyekan, Sinach, and Deitrick Haddon also drawing significant attention.
