Casana Launches Smart Toilet Seat That Monitors Blood Pressure and Vital Signs

Casana officially launched the Smart Seat in July 2026, a health-monitoring toilet seat that tracks vital signs passively during daily bathroom use.

The device monitors blood pressure trends, heart rate, heart rate variability, blood oxygen, and respiratory rate. It requires no behavior change from the user and installs onto standard elongated toilets using a two-bolt system. The seat runs on a two-year battery.

Three embedded sensors power the system: a single-lead electrocardiogram, a photoplethysmogram, and a ballistocardiogram. The seat includes biometric identification capable of recognizing up to five registered household members, ensuring data is attributed to the correct individual. It contains no cameras or microphones, and all data is encrypted and accessible only through the Smart Seat Companion App.

Validation studies compared the seat's performance against hospital-grade monitors and echocardiograms. Reported accuracy metrics include a 1.2 mmHg error for diastolic blood pressure and a -2.7 mmHg error for systolic blood pressure.

The product launch follows the FDA's January 2026 guidance on general wellness devices for low-risk monitoring. Casana designates the Smart Seat as a wellness device for general monitoring, not a tool for medical diagnosis.

The Smart Seat is priced at $199, which covers the hardware and the first year of service. After the first year, users pay approximately $19.99 per month. Investors include General Catalyst, Matrix Partners, Kaiser Permanente, and Bemis Manufacturing.

The launch comes as U.S. digital health startups raised $7.4 billion across 244 deals in the first half of 2026, exceeding the same period in 2025 by $1 billion.
