Colorado Springs LDS Temple Breaks Ground as Fourth Colorado Temple
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Colorado Springs Colorado Temple on September 12, 2026. Elder Karl D. Hirst of the United States Central Area Presidency presided over the event at an 18.6-acre site in the Northgate neighborhood. The 45,000-square-foot temple will be the fourth operating LDS temple in Colorado.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints broke ground on the Colorado Springs Colorado Temple on Saturday, September 12, 2026, marking the start of construction on what will become the fourth operating temple in the state.
Elder Karl D. Hirst, a General Authority Seventy and member of the United States Central Area Presidency, presided over the ceremony. He dedicated the site and described temples as places of "spiritual guidance, peace, hope and revelation" for members of the faith.
The temple will sit on an 18.6-acre property south of the intersection of Flying Horse Club Drive and Barossa Valley Road in the Northgate neighborhood of Colorado Springs. The planned structure is a single-story building of approximately 45,000 square feet. The site will also include a meetinghouse and a grounds maintenance building.
Church President Russell M. Nelson first announced the temple during the October 2023 General Conference. The project faced a period of local debate over the temple's spire height and exterior lighting before the Colorado Springs City Council unanimously approved the development plans in February 2026.
When complete, the Colorado Springs temple will join existing LDS temples in Denver, Fort Collins, and Grand Junction. No completion date has been announced.
