Google Launches Gemini 3.5 Flash at I/O 2026, Claims It Is Four Times Faster Than Rival Models

Google announced the Gemini 3.5 Flash model at its Google I/O 2026 conference on May 19, making it immediately available across Google Search, the Gemini app, Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, Vertex AI, and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.

The company says Gemini 3.5 Flash is its strongest agentic and coding model to date, running four times faster than other frontier models in terms of output tokens per second. It outperforms the previous Gemini 3.1 Pro on several benchmarks, including Terminal-Bench 2.1 at 76.2 percent, MCP Atlas at 83.6 percent, and CharXiv Reasoning at 84.2 percent.

API pricing for Gemini 3.5 Flash is set at $1.50 per million input tokens and $9.00 per million output tokens.

Google also announced Gemini 3.5 Pro at the same event, but that model was not released to the general public on May 19. It is currently in internal use at Google and available in limited preview for select Vertex AI enterprise customers. General availability is targeted for June 2026. The Pro model is designed for frontier use cases including deep reasoning, complex multimodal understanding, and a 2 million-token context window.

Alongside the model announcements, Google introduced the Antigravity agent-first development platform, which serves as the harness for deploying collaborative subagents using the Gemini 3.5 series. The Antigravity CLI is scheduled to replace the existing Gemini CLI on June 18, 2026.

For enterprise users, Gemini 3.5 Flash became enabled by default in the Gemini Enterprise app starting June 8, 2026.

Google also unveiled Gemini Spark, an autonomous personal AI agent built on the Antigravity platform, currently being rolled out to trusted testers. The company introduced a reimagined AI-powered Search box that allows multi-modal queries using text, images, files, videos, and Chrome tabs.
