The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI), a coalition representing 150,000 African-American churches and 27.7 million members, has launched a series of major health initiatives in spring 2026, reinforcing the Black church''s historic role as a pillar of community health and wellness.
**African American Parkinson Patient Advocacy Association**
NBCI launched the African American Parkinson Patient Advocacy Association on April 1, 2026, alongside a "Parkinson Brain Health" social media campaign. The initiative aims to raise awareness about Parkinson''s disease in Black communities, which have historically been underrepresented in research and treatment programs.
**Vaccines Are Good for America Campaign**
NBCI launched a "Vaccines are Good for America" social media campaign on March 25, 2026, urging its members to stay up-to-date on immunization schedules. The campaign addresses vaccine hesitancy in communities of color and provides accessible health information in both English and Spanish.
**Heart First Program**
A pilot "Heart First Program" has been launched in Miami, Florida, and Charlotte, North Carolina, focusing on cardiovascular health disparities that disproportionately affect African Americans. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in Black communities.
**Clinical Trials Engagement**
NBCI and the American Clinical Health Disparities Commission (ACHDC) are working to broaden the engagement of African-American and Latino communities in clinical trials, addressing the critical underrepresentation that has historically limited the effectiveness of medical treatments for these populations.
**Black Beautiful Babies Campaign**
NBCI released a proposal for the "Black Beautiful Babies Campaign" to address the Black maternal health crisis, which sees Black women dying from pregnancy-related complications at three times the rate of white women.
NBCI also announced "The 25 Most Effective Christian Biblical Preachers of 2025-2026 in the Black Preaching Tradition," celebrating pastoral leadership across the country.
