The National Black Church Initiative launched a Sunday School Teacher Certificate Course on September 1, 2026.
The program aims to train 10,000 new Sunday school teachers across the country. The NBCI, which represents 150,000 African American churches, is running the course as part of its broader education and community development work.
The certificate course is designed to equip church volunteers and staff with structured teaching methods and curriculum tools for religious education.
The NBCI has been active on multiple fronts in September 2026. The organization also launched a Prayer Warriors Circle to facilitate daily Morning Prayer Live sessions. Other ongoing programs include immunization tracking, Parkinson's disease advocacy, and a maternal health initiative called the Beautiful Black Babies Campaign.
The NBCI also operates a Color Threat System for Black churches, which provides security guidance and law enforcement coordination based on threat levels.
The Sunday school teacher training program is part of a push to strengthen religious education infrastructure within Black congregations at a time when many churches are working to engage younger members and expand community services.
