Nvidia is in discussions to guarantee up to $250 billion in financing for OpenAI''s planned data center campus in Piketon, Ohio, according to reports published in late July 2026.
The arrangement would position Nvidia as a financial backstop for the project, one of the largest AI infrastructure investments in U.S. history. OpenAI has been seeking long-term industrial capacity to support the computing demands of its next generation of AI models.
Separately, Anthropic signed a 20-year lease for an AI infrastructure campus in Kentucky valued at $19 billion. The deals reflect a broader race among AI companies to secure physical computing resources before demand outpaces supply.
Cloud providers are also moving aggressively. Amazon is reportedly seeking $25 billion in bond financing to fund its AI infrastructure buildout. Nscale secured a $900 million credit facility for global data center expansion.
Energy access is a key bottleneck for all of these projects. National Grid took a $1.75 billion stake in Joulent to help power AI data centers. Bloom Energy and Brookfield expanded a $25 billion power partnership for the same purpose.
Analysts said the scale of these investments signals that AI infrastructure has become a strategic priority on par with semiconductor manufacturing. The Ohio campus, if completed, would be among the largest data center complexes in the world.
