OpenAI launched personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States on May 15, 2026.

The tools allow users to connect their bank accounts and ask financial questions, ranging from spending analysis to future financial planning. OpenAI partnered with Plaid for account connections, enabling access to more than 12,000 financial institutions.

Users can view their portfolio performance, spending patterns, subscriptions, and upcoming payments through a dashboard. The initiative follows OpenAI's acquisition of the personal finance startup Hiro's team in April 2026.

More than 200 million users already ask financial questions to ChatGPT monthly. The new GPT-5.5 model is designed for stronger reasoning with context, which OpenAI says is critical for financial queries. The company developed a benchmark with finance experts to improve the model's performance in this area.

The tools are available on ChatGPT on the web and iOS for Pro users. OpenAI plans to make them available to Plus users after gathering feedback.

The company also plans to support Intuit soon, which would allow for analyses such as the tax impact of stock sales or credit card approval odds.

Privacy advocates have raised concerns about connecting bank accounts to AI tools. Users are advised to review OpenAI's data policies before linking financial accounts.
