OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Personal Finance Tools with Bank Account Integration
OpenAI launched personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro subscribers on May 15, 2026, allowing users to connect more than 12,000 financial institutions through Plaid. The tools let users analyze spending, track subscriptions, and plan for major financial goals.

OpenAI launched a new set of personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States on May 15, 2026. The tools allow users to connect their bank accounts, investment accounts, and credit cards through Plaid, a financial data service that works with more than 12,000 institutions.
Once connected, users see a dashboard showing portfolio performance, spending patterns, subscription costs, and upcoming payments. They can ask ChatGPT questions such as "Has my spending changed recently?" or "Help me plan to buy a house in five years."
The launch came one month after OpenAI acquired the team behind Hiro, a personal finance startup backed by Ribbit Capital and General Catalyst. OpenAI said the Hiro team's expertise helped shape the new product.
The company said more than 200 million users already ask financial questions to ChatGPT each month. The new tools are designed to give those users more accurate, personalized answers by connecting to their actual financial data.
OpenAI used its GPT-5.5 model for the finance tools, citing its stronger reasoning capabilities with financial context. The company plans to add support for Intuit, which would allow users to analyze the tax implications of investment decisions.
Users can disconnect accounts at any time through the Settings menu. Synced data is deleted within 30 days of disconnecting. Users can also view and delete financial memories stored by the system.
The tools are available on the web and on iOS for Pro subscribers. OpenAI said it plans to expand access to Plus subscribers after gathering feedback from the initial rollout.
Privacy advocates have raised questions about the risks of connecting sensitive financial data to an AI system. OpenAI said it worked with finance and security experts to build safeguards into the product.
