OpenAI launched a new set of personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States on May 15, 2026, allowing users to connect their bank accounts and ask questions about spending patterns and financial planning.

The company partnered with Plaid to manage account connections. Users can link accounts from over 12,000 financial institutions, including Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One.

Once connected, users see a dashboard showing portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions, and upcoming payments. They can ask questions like "I feel like I've been spending more recently. Has anything changed?" or "Help me build a plan to buy a house in the next five years."

OpenAI said more than 200 million users already ask financial questions to ChatGPT each month. The new GPT-5.5 model is designed for stronger reasoning with financial context.

The company acquired the team behind personal finance startup Hiro in April 2026, one month before the launch. OpenAI said the Hiro team's expertise in finance was useful in building the product.

OpenAI plans to integrate with Intuit soon, which would enable analyses such as the tax impact of a stock sale or the odds of credit card approval.

Users can access the tool by selecting "Finances" in the ChatGPT sidebar or typing "@Finances, connect my accounts" in a conversation. Connections can be removed through Settings, and synced data is deleted within 30 days of disconnecting.

The tools are available on the web and iOS for Pro users. OpenAI said it will expand access to Plus users after gathering feedback.
