Ozempic is now available in pill form, offering patients a non-injectable option for the popular GLP-1 medication. The oral formulation has been anticipated for years as a way to make the drug more accessible to people who are reluctant to use injections.

GLP-1 medications, which regulate blood sugar and appetite, were originally approved for type 2 diabetes. They have since been widely used for weight management and are being studied for additional applications including cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease.

Healthline reported in May 2026 that new next-generation GLP-1 drugs are also showing promising results in clinical trials, with some showing stronger weight loss outcomes than existing options. Researchers are also studying the impact of these drugs on lean body mass compared to earlier GLP-1 medications like Mounjaro.

Health experts caution that medication alone is not a complete solution. "Injection-only solutions are not sufficient for comprehensive health changes," said one specialist cited in recent coverage. Diet, exercise, and behavioral support remain important parts of any weight management plan.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency has also directed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to develop a proposal for treating crypto as a reserve asset, a separate development that reflects the broader financial changes affecting healthcare costs and insurance.

The Global Wellness Summit noted in its 2026 trends report that GLP-1 use is expanding beyond its original patient population, raising questions about medical oversight and long-term effects. Oral formulations are expected to accelerate adoption further.
