Positron AI Raises 875 Million Dollars at 5 Billion Dollar Valuation to Build Next-Gen Inference Chips
AI inference hardware startup Positron AI announced an $875 million Series C financing round in September 2026, bringing its valuation to $5 billion. The company is developing specialized chips designed to run large AI models more efficiently than general-purpose GPUs. Its next-generation chip, called Asimov, is scheduled to tape out on TSMC's 3-nanometer process by the end of 2026.
AI inference hardware startup Positron AI announced an $875 million Series C financing round in September 2026, bringing its post-money valuation to $5 billion.
The funding was completed in two tranches. The initial Series C round secured $375 million at a $3.5 billion pre-money valuation, followed by a Series C-1 round providing up to $500 million. The round was co-led by NEA, Atreides Management, Valor Equity Partners, Andra Capital, SemiAnalysis Capital, and Jim Clark, the founder of Silicon Graphics and Netscape.
Positron AI focuses on what it calls a "memory-first" inference architecture. The company says its chips achieve over 90 percent utilization of available memory bandwidth by using commodity LPDDR5X memory rather than the high-bandwidth memory used by most AI accelerators. That approach avoids supply chain bottlenecks that have affected competitors.
The company's first-generation inference system, called Atlas, has already been deployed in over 50 racks at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Customers include Parasail, Jump Trading, and i3d.net.
The next-generation chip, called Asimov, is scheduled to tape out on TSMC's N3P 3-nanometer process by the end of 2026, with production expected in the second half of 2027. Each Asimov chip is designed to support between 288 gigabytes and 2,304 gigabytes of memory.
The company is also developing a server system called Titan, which integrates four to eight Asimov chips per node and targets AI models with over 16 trillion parameters.
The valuation represents a significant jump from the company's February 2026 financing, which valued the startup at approximately $1 billion.
