Patients who switched from injectable GLP-1 medications to the oral Wegovy pill lost an additional 4.1 percent of their body weight over three months, according to new research published in October 2026. The finding suggests the pill form may offer added benefit for some patients already on GLP-1 therapy.

The FDA approved the oral Wegovy pill on December 22, 2025, making it the first GLP-1 receptor agonist in pill form approved specifically for weight management. Novo Nordisk launched the product in the U.S. market in early January 2026. It is available at more than 70,000 pharmacies, including CVS and Costco, and through telehealth providers.

Clinical trial data from the OASIS program showed that patients who adhered to the treatment regimen lost an average of 16.6 to 17 percent of their body weight at 64 weeks. The pill contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient as the injectable Wegovy, but uses a special formulation to allow absorption through the stomach.

Patients must take the pill on an empty stomach with a small amount of water and wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking other medications. Side effects are similar to the injectable version, with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea being the most common.

Self-pay pricing starts at about 149 dollars per month for lower doses and reaches 299 dollars per month for the 25 mg dose. Commercially insured patients may access savings programs that bring costs as low as 25 dollars per month.
